Situated in a significant heritage building, careful consideration was needed in the design of this East-City creative studio.
As a heritage building with some of the largest and oldest roofing timbers in the Mother City, we had to carefully design our additions to not drill or damage any part of the wood. Instead, we created metal straps that bolted around the beams onto which we then constructed the mezzanine level. This level was made of steel to contrast the new with the old timber. The result was a large, light, double-story space with a juxtaposed feeling of old and new - perfect for a creative design studio.
A mixture of industrial materials, softened with art, plants & vintage furniture, make this workspace a creative’s dream.
Perspex screens divide the space, providing a separate meeting room area that can be enclosed for a degree of privacy.
Making full use of the space, the pause area was included above the open studio to provide some respite from the busyness of the daily grind.
A beautiful steel staircase that spirals up to the mezzanine level. Note the metal straps around the wood.
