Nestled in the heart of Woodstock village, this cosy Victorian row-house was rejuvenated into a light, botanical wonder.
Using a prefabricated timber panel construction technique, we managed to stick to the very tight budget and reduce on-site time.
The front of the house was lovingly restored to its original glory by re-introducing the sash-window and front stoep, and by replacing the high front wall with a low, period-appropriate wall and palisade. The rear extension made use of corrugated iron for cladding and introduced a green courtyard for light, air and shelter from the worst of the wind. By stepping the floor, additional seating was created, helping us play with heights and light from the double volume above. This also allowed the house to sit humbly within its neighbourhood and link with the rear garden.
The rear garden with an added wooden deck, slat pergola & lush botanicals offers a peaceful spot to pause.
Double volume spaces allow light to flood in from the courtyard & illuminate the main living area.
The botanical courtyard is an inner oasis & offers the living area calming shades of green.
The courtyard Eco-wall creates a luscious view through the recycled doors & window panes of the bedroom downstairs.
With thoughtful design, the simple shower & separate loo were incorporated into the main bedroom.
