The revival & renovation of an old building in the heart of Green Point village was such a delight.
Highlighting and enlivening areas of the old, such as exposing original stable beams and cobble floors from the 1860’s, this quietly historic building was transformed from a boutique guesthouse into a modern home.
The large original Oregon pine beams influenced the choice of materials with regards to new additions, such that reclaimed Oregon was sent to a shipbuilder to be crosscut in the American fashion, in contrast with the British Flame-style cut, and laminated together to become kitchen joinery .
The central courtyard - with a luscious green wall and Eco-pool - is a key feature for light, flow, indoor/outdoor, and entertainment. This, together with the Biofire, created the heart of the home.
Gabions filled with Malmesbury shale & a mini forest of seven trees create an enchanted entrance.
A lush planted wall filters the water of the Eco-pool & introduces soft greenery into the heart of the home.
Oregon beams, an ancient bare-brick wall & original cobbled floors from horse stables dating back to the late 1800’s, make this space particularly enlivened.
Old Oregon roofing timbers were recycled into the joiners items, closets & kitchen to link the new & old house.
A specially designed bio fireplace heats a column of brickwork from ground to roof, efficiently providing warmth to the downstairs living area & main bedroom for an entire day.
Modern steel beams run through the living space, juxtaposed against the natural oak flooring.
Colourful outer walls & a steel pergola draw inspiration from Mediterranean architecture & design.
