A residential project set in a beautiful landscape that aimed to draw the outdoors in.
On a tight budget, we stepped a simple rectangular form to keep construction straightforward yet allow for visual interest. This also helped with the wooden screening elements required to keep the sea-view open and glazed, but cool, on the West-side. Simple pine flooring painted white added to the seaside feel and durability for children playing. In the kids’ areas we designed windows specifically at their height, though adults could also enjoy these views whilst sitting.
Overall, the project was a blend of modern & traditional elements to create a relaxed beach-house family home.
Layering materials from base to peak helped blend the house with the mountainside.
The layering of screens & balconies protects & shades the large-view windows from the West sun.
Simple painted timber floors helped keep the cost lower & added to the beach feel.
Large internal & external openings, from kitchen to lounge, allow views to the magnificent outside.
A large kitchen island & steel beams in the cabinetry blend modern & traditional beach house.
Lofts for the kids with windows at their height to gaze out at the natural world. A playroom bay window offering practical storage and a lovely spot to unwind.
A bathroom with a simple, screeded finish offers what’s important for the soul.
