Seaside Simplicity

Scroll

The beauty of this project came from the house needing to be off grid in terms of water, electricity & sewerage.

The home also had to accommodate multiple families with many children on a limited footprint, tight budget and in a remote landscape. We achieved this by installing large underground rainwater tanks, solar panels and geysers, gas kitchen appliances and a bio-filtration sewerage system.

Through the considered placement of each light-bulb (one bulb sometimes doing two rooms), the use of readily available materials, simple building techniques, and thoughtful design of each space, a humble holiday home was created.

Finishes of timber, brick & screed, along with additions of gas & rainwater, kept things simple & down to earth.
